Come study A New Earth, Eckhart Tolle’s all-embracing book on personal development and spiritual awakening. The teachings in this book offer us a way to reframe how we see the world—to see ourselves in a new light. Subjects included are: the new human consciousness, the current state of humanity, the ego, role-playing, the pain body, breaking free of the pain body, finding who you truly are, the discovery of inner space, your inner purpose, and awakening. In these gatherings, we will examine the book and its teachings, and explore how we can apply the new earth model in our lives. Newcomers are welcome.
Previous Session Discussions:
January 23, 2010
This session’s focus was Chapter 9, Your Inner Purpose, which we discussed along with ‘outer purpose’ and the relationship between the two. We also talked about these relative to how one engages with life, and being open to and accepting the present moment. We shared our experiences of times when we’ve been able to reconcile our inner purpose with what we are doing in the outer world, and how things just seem to snap into place when we are aligned with our inner purpose.
October 3, 2009:
We came prepared to discuss Chapter 8, The Discovery of Inner Space, and had a great conversation on our own examples of the ego’s voice, how it keeps us ‘separated’ from others through judging others, judging ourselves, even through guilt-tripping ourselves when we have nothing for which to be guilty. Yet just in being aware of the times when we experience these things brings a slight gap between Self and the ego. Constructive discussion or perhaps prayer about how to see the situation differently helps in ‘letting go’ of the hold the ego has upon us. Using the breath and/or meditation along with paying attention to sensations in the body (and doing this numerous times throughout the day) helps to increase the gap and bring peace.
September 5, 2009:
Our first session after the summer break, we had read Chapter 7 again [particularly, The Dreamer and the Dream (p. 208) onward] for discussion this time. We discussed some issues that had recently surfaced for us relative to the teachings, and focussed on quotes in the chapter which spoke to us.
June 6, 2009:
This session's discussion was on Chapter 7 "Finding Who You Truly Are" before the session. We talked about who we are and who we 'think' we are, the ego in relation to these and the present moment. We shall carry on with this chapter next time.
May 2, 2009:
We covered a lot of territory this session including Role-Playing, The Pain Body, and Breaking Free, and decided to carry on with Chapter 7 "Finding Who You Truly Are" next time and then, as Brenda said, whatever comes up, comes up!
April 4, 2009:
We had an enthusiastic discussion about The Pain Body, where we all shared instances of our pain bodies resurfacing in our lives and, at the end of the session, decided it was a good idea to focus on breaking free of the pain body next time.
